The Truth About Living With a Grail Watch

Grail watches are supposed to be the pieces you wear for the rest of your life. In this video I tell the story of my Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, how I stretched to buy it in 2018, and why it ended up spending far more time in the box than on my wrist. From choosing the hyped 41 millimeter over the size that actually fits me to watching the retail price almost double, I break down the decisions that felt smart at the time and look very different with a few years of perspective.

The video also looks at what happens after you finally get the grail. I talk honestly about living with a very visible watch in New York, traveling with it through cities where watch crime is in the headlines, and how that constant awareness slowly killed the joy. That experience has pushed me toward under the radar pieces and smaller brands that I can wear on a random Tuesday without thinking about insurance, hotel safes or being a target. If you have ever wondered whether chasing a grail really changes your collecting life, this video shows the reality from the other side.
