Introducing the Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XPS

Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XPS

Ever since the Chopard Alpine Eagle was first released in 2019, we have placed the watch at the top amongst our very favorite steel sport watches. Yes, the watch has the heritage of the St. Moritz released in 1980. But to us, it is a modern steel sport watch with vintage callbacks.

While the Alpine Eagle has come with different complications (including flying tourbillon and chronograph) and in different materials (such as gold and steel), the new Alpine Eagle 41 XPS might be our favorite. The 41 XPS features a “Monte Rose Pink” dial that is almost salmon or bronze. In addition, the watch features a new ultra-thin slim profile due to the 3.3mm thick L.U.C 96.40-L automatic movement that powers the watch.

The Juice:

Ever since Chopard launched the Alpine Eagle collection, we have felt that it sits admirably alongside the other giants of the steel sport watch category, including the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus. And the new Alpine Eagle 41 XPS takes the watch to a new level. Chopard slimmed down the profile in large part due to their ultra-thin L.U.C 96.40-L automatic movement. This means the case profile is only 8mm, thinner than the Royal Oak Ultra-Thin Jumbo 16202, if only by a hair (the Royal Oak is 8.1mm thick). Chopard knows to showcase this achievement through the display caseback, displaying the decorated L.U.C 96.40-L in-house movement with microrotor.

Beyond the slimmer profile, the dial is the real show-stopper, already making it one of our favorite salmon dial watches. The dial salmon, or Monte Rosa Pink, dial as Chopard calls it is truly stunning. The dial features the iconic radiating texture which is inspired by the iris of an eagle. Unlike other models of the Alpine Eagle, the 41 XPS features a small seconds at 6 o’clock with a different texture than the rest of the dial. This gives the watch another nice visual cue for the wearer and does not disrupt the overall cohesiveness of the design.

While the Alpine Eagle has been offered in other complications, including a chronograph and flying tourbillon, it is nice to see Chopard bring back simplicity with a new release. For those who want an alternative to other slim steel sport watches like the Royal Oak and Nautilus, we are sure the Alpine Eagle 41 XPS will get consideration.
