Introducing the Wren Diver One Magma: A Fiery New Chapter for the Diver One
This started the way a lot of watch ideas do, with a conversation.
For months, Ben (@benswatches) and I had been talking about the idea of doing something together. We’d already been recording Wrist Enthusiast Radio every week, talking about everything from independent watchmaking to what makes a diver feel balanced on wrist. But somewhere between all those episodes, we kept circling back to the same idea: it would be fun to actually build something. Not as a gimmick. Not to chase hype. Just one watch. Designed by both of us. Worn by both of us.
So we did it.
The Wren Diver One Magma is the first collaboration we’ve ever done through Wren, and it’s easily the boldest Diver One we’ve made. It has a matte orange-to-black gradient dial, Wren’s first ceramic bezel on a Diver One, and some new lume choices that pushed us out of our comfort zone in the best way. We didn’t tease it, didn’t preview it, and didn’t post about it until we were ready. Now it’s here, and I’m proud of how it turned out.
Why We Kept It Quiet
From day one, this was a personal project. We didn’t want to over-engineer it or turn it into a marketing exercise. We just wanted to build something that reflected both of our perspectives, and see if we could take the Diver One somewhere new, without losing what makes it work.
There were no sneak peeks, no renders, and no early press. Just prototypes, back-and-forth tweaks, and a few trusted friends giving us feedback along the way. Keeping it quiet gave us the freedom to focus on the watch itself. And now that it’s done, we finally get to share it.
Inspired by Lava, Not Trend Cycles
The core idea for the Magma came from the name itself. We wanted something that captured the pressure and heat of volcanic energy. Something that looked like it could be glowing from within.
The dial is a matte orange-to-black gradient, fading from center to edge. It’s not glossy, and it’s not sunburst. The finish is flat and rich, giving the orange a saturated but controlled look that feels more serious than playful.
A lot of orange dial watches are loud by default. This one isn’t. It stands out, but it’s not trying to be a statement piece. The color builds slowly and fades into black, creating depth without flash.
Lume That Looks Different. Because It Is
We also made a pretty unorthodox choice when it came to lume. For the first time on a Diver One, we used dark grey Super-LumiNova on the hands and hour markers. Most brands won’t touch this lume because it’s harder to tune, harder to read in daylight, and riskier overall. But we liked the way it worked with the rest of the design.
To keep legibility high, especially on a dive watch, we added white outlines around the hands and markers. That detail gives just enough contrast without breaking the color palette. It’s clean, it’s easy to read, and it looks totally different from any previous Diver One.
A First for the Diver One: Ceramic Bezel
Another first for this model: the ceramic bezel insert. We’d used ceramic before on the Diver 38 series, but never on the Diver One. Until now.
It made sense on this watch. The dial is bold, the lume is unique, and the bezel needed to hold its own visually. Ceramic gives it just enough gloss to set it apart, while offering real-world durability and scratch resistance.
Everything Else That Makes a Diver One Work
We didn’t change the case. The Magma still uses the Diver One platform:
41mm in diameter
13.3mm thick
47mm lug to lug
It wears balanced and compact, which has always been the point. Inside is the Sellita SW200, a solid, Swiss-made automatic that’s served us well across the entire Diver One lineup. The caseback is closed and engraved with the Wren bird.
Two Straps Included
Each Magma ships with both a black integrated rubber strap and a stainless steel bracelet, included by default.
I’ve mostly worn mine on the rubber, but every time I put it on the bracelet, it feels like a different watch. The combination gives you options without forcing you to pick one at checkout.
100 Total Pieces. First 50 Available Now.
We’re producing exactly 100 pieces of the Diver One Magma. The first 50 are available now and shipping immediately. The remaining 50 will ship later this year.
Watch numbers will be assigned randomly, so there’s no rush to try and grab a low serial. But if you want to be part of the first batch, now’s the time.
This is not the start of a series. It’s not a recurring collab. It’s one model, and once all 100 are gone, that’s it.
Why This One Matters
This is the first time I’ve put someone else’s name on a Wren release, and that wasn’t something I took lightly. But Ben brought a ton of vision to this design. And collaborating with someone who truly lives and breathes watches, and someone I trust and talk to every week, made the whole process better.
This project reminded me why I started Wren in the first place. It’s not just about specs or trends. It’s about building watches we actually want to wear. Watches that don’t feel overthought, but still feel intentional.
The Magma is different. It’s louder. It’s bolder. But it’s still a Diver One. And I think that’s what makes it work.
The Wren Diver One Magma is available now for $1,075.
Only 100 will be made. The first 50 are shipping immediately. Get yours here.
