INTRODUCING: The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Collection

For more than two and a half centuries, Vacheron-Constantin have been producing some of the finest high-horology and luxury timepieces. As one of the few Maisons to have never stopped production since their founding, they have some serious pedigree both from a technical and artisanal standpoint. Their distinctive characteristic is the ‘art horloger’ that transcends all of their designs, which turns all their watches into real works of art- the devil is definitely in the details with Vacheron-Constantin. They have equipped celebrities, such as Marlon Brando, or Monarchs, such as King Farouk of Egypt, with their beautiful and technically superior pieces. Moving forwards, Vacheron-Constantin embraced the alliance of High-Horology and Sports watches, first with the 222 and then with the Overseas collection. Today, the brand remains one of the leading lights in the industry, keeping abreast of the latest trends without comprising their commitment to tradition.

Introduced in 1996, the Vacheron-Constantin Overseas was a first step into the modern era of luxury watches. Heavily influenced by the iconic 222 that came 20 years before it, the Overseas was their first real sports watch. Overhauled in 2016, the Overseas collection has become a thing of might, offering numerous different configurations, complications, and customisation. Designed to tackle the challenges of modern life, be it wandering the streets of a bustling metropolis or trekking through the arctic wilderness, the Overseas can surmount it, all whilst looking equally at home at a cocktail party, on both his and her wrists.

The addition of a Sunburst Green dial to the collection is relatively novel for Vacheron-Constantin. Their colour of choice is their distinct and regal shade of blue which is often associated with them. This new green dial brings a breath of fresh air into the collection, breaking from tradition and giving us a whole new world of choice, whilst opening up the possibilities of more colours in the future. Let’s see what this latest Overseas collection does just that…

Overseas Automatique:

Case: Rose Gold, 41mm; Water Resistance: 150m; Movement: Automatic; Crystal: Sapphire.

It is often easy to overlook the beauty of a simple watch, especially when all the other watches are extremely complicated and extravagant. The Overseas Automatique is definitely a case of ‘less is more’. It gives us the opportunity to contemplate this brilliant Sunburst Green dial and the light show that it creates, with reflections bouncing off the rose gold case. Inherently a luxury sports watch, it has been designed to be its wearer’s companion for any trip, meeting, or event. We can’t wait to see the green dial trickle down to the other Overseas Automatique models.

Overseas Chronographe:

Case: Rose Gold, 42.5mm; Water Resistance: 150m; Movement: Automatic; Crystal: Sapphire.

The Overseas Chronographe is one of the best-looking and most capable luxury chronographs available on the market, and it’s going to look even better with this new green dial. Like the rest of the collection, it is incredibly versatile which isn’t a given for a luxury chronograph. The selection of straps that come with it really help it look at home in the boardroom, the ballroom, or on the yacht. At just 12mm thickness, it on the thin end of the spectrum for an automatic chronograph, making it incredibly pleasant to wear. The aesthetic and elegance of the Overseas isn’t lost amongst the sub-dials, and the finishing is above excellent, making it great to admire.

Overseas Dual-Time:

Case: Rose Gold, 42.5mm; Water Resistance: 150m; Movement: Automatic; Crystal: Sapphire.

In 1932, Vacheron-Constantin released their first ‘Heure Universelle’ watch using the Cottier system or the format we now know as a world timer. The Overseas Dual-Time maintains this tradition. Designed for the businessmen and travelers of the modern era, who are constantly jetting across the globe, this watch enables them to keep track of their home time. The rotor is designed to resemble the ‘Rose des Vents’ (the embellished compass we see at the top of maps) in homage to the voyagers who used timepieces to help them in their exploits. This new green dial variant will be the first one available with the rose gold integrated bracelet, something that Vacheron-Constantin enthusiasts have certainly been clamoring for.

Overseas Automatique Diamond Bezel:

Case: Rose Gold, 35mm; Water Resistance: 0m; Movement: Automatic; Crystal: Sapphire.

Definitely the outlier of this release for a number of reasons, this Overseas is a bit different and we love it. The smaller size is the most noticeable element, once you’ve been able to draw your gaze away from the 90 flawless diamonds that adorn the iconic bezel. Whilst the 35mm case is unisex, it is definitely aimed female wearers keeping with Vacheron-Constantin’s tradition of offering timepieces for everyone: they released their first women’s watch in 19th Century. The watch is supplied with a number of straps, giving the wearer the opportunity to take this piece everywhere.
