With almost 120 years of watchmaking experience and expertise, Oris have made a name for themselves in the industry for producing incredibly high-quality and good-looking designs that attract the attention of collectors and enthusiasts from every price-point. Their mastery of watch-making technology is extremely impressive, and they are renowned for their accuracy and long power-reserves, something that only a select few can do. On top of this, Oris love to take part in fun and imaginative collaboration with a multitude of different partners, ranging from charitable foundations and industry leaders to famous designers and the Muppets.

One of these such partners is Collective Horology, a design studio based in Ventura, California. Their raison d’etre is designing creative and imaginative pieces that transcend price point, so that anyone can get something unique on their wrist. These two-kindred spirits, brought together by their fierce independence and passion, have worked together relentlessly for last two-years to bring out this wonderful collaboration: the Oris x Collective Horology ‘Diver Seventy-Five’ C.04.

The Juice:

Oris and Collective Horology have joined forces to create this wonderful tribute to the Divers Sixty-Five collection, which has recently become a firm favourite for enthusiasts. The retro-feel, classic looks, and the cutting-edge tech makes this a package that’s hard to contend with in this range. It’s more than understandable as to why so many have fallen in love with them. This makes it the perfect choice for this collaboration, which takes inspiration from the ‘70s Californian graphic design to come up with a funky and unique homage piece.

The dial is possibly the most striking component of the watch. Collective Horology have done away with the conservative layout that we see on the other models from the collection. Instead, they have brought back the Arabic numerals, which haven’t ever been seen on these latest models. But these are absolutely not regular- painted on in luminescent paint, the typography breaks up the dial, giving it a bit of that ‘70s free-spirit and relaxed feel. The subtle orange tones of the bullseye dial look like they’ve come off of a Beatles album cover, radiating that warm ‘feel-good’ vibe.

The case is not too different to the standard Diver Sixty-Five- all the elements still there: the large crown, mid-sized dimensions, the domed sapphire crystal. All of this really reinforces the vintage-feel of this incredibly sharp and modern watch. The beautifully finished bezel-insert matches the tones of the dial to extend the bullseye pattern, which is complemented by the thin bronze bezel.

Sadly, the Diver ‘Seventy-Five’ only comes on a metal bracelet, and Oris does not offer any additional strap options. However, that’s not anything to be disappointed about, even for the strap lovers, as the bracelet is just fantastic. Made out of Stainless Steel, with bronze centre-links looks fantastic. Complementing the dial and bezel really well, the bronze ties the whole visual ensemble together perfectly. Obviously, they have exposed the rivets on all the links, just to remind you that this is a retro-watch- in case you hadn’t already noticed…

The movement is a standard affair for Oris. The calibre 400 offers everything that you would expect from the brand- reliability, performance, and accuracy, as well as great finishing, which is always appreciated when the movement is on display for all to see. The 120-hour power-reserve is often overlooked when you first purchase an Oris, but you swiftly come to love it once the watch is yours.

When all is said and done, the Oris x Collective Horology ‘Diver Seventy-Five’ is a fantastic display of creativity and craftsmanship that we definitely want to see more of in the future, and hopefully this limited run of 250 pieces is the start of a fruitful partnership.
