Introducing the Oris Coulson Limited Edition

Over the past few years Oris has become a watch industry leader in “making the planet a better place”. The brand has been partnered with the Coral Restoration Foundation since 2014 in an effort to bring awareness, education, and action to combat the loss of coral reefs around the world and released the Aquis New York Harbor Limited Edition in collaboration with the Billion Oyster Project in an effort to help bring back one billion oysters to New York Harbor. In addition, Oris was recently independently certified as as a climate neutral company. The brand is serious about climate and bettering the planet, and that makes us big fans (beyond the fact that we love their watches).

The most recent collaboration continues this tradition. Oris is partnering with Coulson Aviation, the world’s leading aerial firefighting organization, and releasing the very cool Oris Coulson Limited Edition.

The Juice

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the Coulson Limited Edition is the case. Though the case is based on the Big Crown ProPilot, Oris used an innovative patented 3D printing process developed by Switzerland’s ETH Zurich university (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) to create a lightweight, attractive and incredibly strong carbon fibre case. Indeed Coulson Aviation’s firefighting pilots will be wearing the watch, knowing that they can survive the elements.

Beyond the carbon fibre case, the red-orange gradient dial is what jumps out most to us. The dial changes from a dark shade of red to bright orange at the bottom of the dial. The contrast between the red and orange dial and nearly black carbon fiber case really makes the watch stand out.

The watch runs on the Oris’ in-house Calibre 400 movement, the same movement that powers their ProPilot X series. Not only does the Calibre 400 boast an impressive 5-day (120 hour) power reserve, it is finished nicely and visible in the watch’s display caseback.

While the ProPilot X is 39mm (or 44mm for the skeleton dial variation), the Coulson Limited Edition is a wearable but larger 41mm. This fits more in line with the size of their other ProPilot models, like the Okavango Air Rescue Limited Edition or the Big Crown ProPilot Big Date (though these watches use the Oris 751 movement, a Sellita-based movement).

The Strap is a black textile strap which fits its intention as a “tool watch” meant to withstand the elements. And due to the carbon fibre case, the watch weighs just 65 grams, movement included.

All in all, this another great collaboration from Oris. We at Wrist Enthusiast are excited to see what type of events Oris and Coulson Aviation have planned to further their collaboration.
