INTRODUCING: The Hublot MP-11 Blue Sapphire

Since 1980, Hublot have been capturing hearts and minds as one of the most dynamic and interesting brands in the industry. Their first design, the Fusion, was the first to combine gold with a rubber strap, shunning the decades old traditions and design codes. Guided by innovation, they are the cutting edge of material technology in the horological industry. Over the last decade, they have manipulated elements such as Sapphire or even created their own such as Saxem. Innovation isn’t just limited to materials at Hublot, they’re also masters of horological engineering and have produced some mind-blowing complications. Let’s see what this new Big Bang MP-11 Water Blue Sapphire is all about.

The Juice:

First introduced at Baselworld 2018, over 6 years ago, the Hublot Big Bang MP-11 took the industry by storm. It was absolutely revolutionary- everything from the movement and case material to the winding mechanism was cutting edge. This new variant of the MP-11 is break from the materials that we’ve previously seen for this model, giving the collection a breath of fresh air.

Probably the most unmissable element of this watch is its case. The pale blue sapphire makes the watch look flawless and light dances of the highly polished surfaces with ease- it definitely not a discreet piece. The new shade of sapphire is another addition to Hublot’s well stocked catalogue of exquisite materials that they master. The clear sapphire crystal that protects the movement is just as fantastic, manufactured specifically to fit the unusual dimensions of this piece, which is deceptively thin at 14.4mm for a watch of this complexity.

The calibre Manufacture HUB9011 is just something else. First released in 2018, the 14-day power-reserve was an industry first, and few have come close since. Hublot really set the bar incredibly high, even for themselves. Fully skeletonized, the watch is just mesmerising. The 7 barrels that make up the power-reserve are juxtaposed to the rest of the movement at a 90° angle, using a small transfer case and helix screw to transfer the energy to the rest of the movement. And if this watch wasn’t impressive enough, you have to wind it manually with an electronic Torx stylus as otherwise it might take an age.

Nestled between the 7 barrels that make up the power-reserve, the dial is a discreet affair. That doesn’t mean that it’s disappointing. On the contrary, the dial is extremely functional and clear, which isn’t a given on a watch that places such importance on the skeletonization of the movement and its primary complication.

The only option available as standard for the MP-11is the matching blue rubber strap with the titanium deployant clasp. This gives the watch the sporty and dynamic feel that is characteristic with all of Hublot’s watches. The case is equipped with the ‘One Click’ system that enables you to change out the strap almost instantly, giving a whole new look in seconds. Hublot offer a fantastic selection of compatible straps on their website and in their Boutiques, so you won’t stuck for options.

The Hublot Big Bang MP-11 Water Blue Sapphire is a brilliant addition to the brand’s line up of exquisite materials and impressive complication. As combination of both of their domains of expertise, it couldn’t be more characteristic of them if it tried.
