THE JUICE

Since the company’s launch in 1845 in Saxony, Glashütte Original has been marked as one of the most technically-focused watch brands in Germany.

This launch marks the 3rd iteration of the brand’s classic Senator Chronometer model. The case, fashioned in a satin-brushed fine white gold, has a diameter of 42 mm with a lug-to-lug distance of 48.4 mm, and a height of 11.4 mm, slightly smaller than the two previous watches’ height of 12.6 mm. The watch’s displays are arranged in a visually clear and aesthetically pleasing order; along with the central hour and minute hate, a small display, lightly recessed, is present at 6 o’clock and a discrete day/night indicator sits just below 12 o’clock. The watch has classic Senator Chronometer features like the three-quarter plate, screw-mounted gold chains, the hand-engraved balance cock, and Glashütte’s signature Panorama Date at 3 o’clock.

The latest version adds a new facet to the collection, the dial and parts of the manual winding movement are silver-plated by friction. A mixture of fine silver powder, salt, and water is rubbed into a surface by hand and is given a galvanic grey coating, lending the watch its fine, shimmering texture.

The bright metallic blue color of the Roman numbers take the nautical theme to mat, and pairs well against the silver tones of the case and face. The case coordinates well with the strap, which is molded from dark blue Louisiana Alligator leather and features a fine white gold foldover clasp. So in addition to being better suited for slimmer wrists, this particular watch’s color palette is more complimentary for those with a cool undertone to their skin.

Looking at the silver and blue color palette, the hues of crashing waves in a storm immediately come to mind, But unlike the sensation of an actual storm, there will be nothing but smooth sailing for the wearer. This model was tested in a strictly controlled 15-day test run in five positions and three different temperatures by the independent Thuringian Office of Weights and Measures to certify peak performance as an officially certified chronometer. With a water resistance of 50 meters and incabloc shock protection, a spring-loaded mounting system that protects the wheel’s delicate pivots from damage in the event of physical shock, the watch is as sturdy as it is elegant.

How much is the Glashütte Senator Chronometer?

The watch will be available in Glashütte Original Boutiques and selected retailers worldwide and will run the buyer an even $32,300 USD.
