Breitling Watches in Movies and Television - From James Bond to Transformers

We recently wrote about Oris watches featured in movies and television. Well Orises aren’t the only watches that have made their share of appearances in Hollywood films. Breitling too has a long list of movie and tv features. We decided to take a look at some of the popular films that “starred” (well, maybe not starred…) a Breitling.

Breitling Chrono Avenger in Blood Diamond

Blood Diamond (2006) stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Danny Archer, a Rhodesian smuggler and mercenary, who makes a career out of smuggling diamonds. While the film is fictional, it takes place during the Sierra Leone Civil War and portrays the horrors of the diamond trade. In the film, DiCaprio wears a Breitling Chrono Avenger. This piece fits the mold for the film as it has a utilitarian titanium case. I must say, this rugged tool watch would look great on the Breitling Avenger camo straps by Horus. The Breitling Chrono Avenger sells for around $5,000 USD on the secondary market.

Breitling Superocean Heritage II Chronograph 46 in Murder Mystery

Murder Myster (2019) stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as a married couple caught up in a murder mystery on a billionaire’s yacht. Luke Evans plays the billionaire owner of the yacht, Charles Cavendish. In the film Evans wears a classic Breitling Superocean Heritage II Chronograph. In addition to a power reserve of 70 hours, this Breitling has a very bice stainless-steel mesh bracelet (Breitling makes some of the nicest mesh bracelets for their watches). The Breitling Superocean Heritage II Chronograph sells for around $6,000 on the secondary market.

Breitling Chronomat Watch in Die Hard with a Vengeance

The Die Hard movies are true action thrillers and some of star Bruce Willis’ most exciting work. In Die Hard With a Vengeance (1995), Willis, who plays the iconic Lieutentant John McClane, wears a Breitling Chronomat. A Breitling Chronomat similar to the one in the film will cost you around $2,500 USD on the secondary market.

Breitling Top Time in the James Bond Movie THunderball

We’ll go as far back as 1965 to see Breitlings in the movies. James Bond himself, aka Sean Connery, wore a Breitling Top Time in the 1965 Bond flick Thunderball. This Breitling was in fact the only watch that Connery wore besides his signature Rolex Submariner. Connery’s screen worn Top Time was auctioned off in 2013 by Christie’s and sold for $160,175 USD.

Breitling Navitimer 806 in the James Bond Movie Thunderball

Bond’s Top Time wasn’t the only Breitling that appeared in Thunderball. A Breitling Navitimer 806 was worn in the James Bond film “Thunderball”. While Sean Connory, who played Bond in the film, wore a Breitling Top Time, Paul Stassino, who plays a Angelo Palazzi, wore a Breitling Navitimer 806. His piece had both a black dial and subdials. The watch features a day and date complication as well. This particular vintage Breitling will set you back around $7,000 USD on the grey market.

Breitling Cockpit B50 Night Mission in Transformers: The Last Knight

While the Transformer movies may not be the greatest display of acting, they are exciting big budget action flicks with big name stars. Mark Wahlberg makes his appearance as Cade Yeager in Transformers: The Last Knight (2017). We already know that Wahlberg is a big time watch collector. In the film, he wears a Breitling Cockpit B50. This Breitling showcases a modern look with an ultra-light titanium case. The watch also includes both an analog and digital display. The Night Mission watch comes with a multitude of functions including an alarm, chronograph, perpetual calendar, and second timezone. Instead of lume, the watch uses a backlight, allowing the wearer to read the time even in complete darkness. The Breitling Cockpit B50 sells for approximately $7,000 USD on the secondary market.

Breitling Aviastar in Ransom

Ransom (1996), starring Mel Gibson, is about a wealthy airline owner who is willing to pay anything to get his son back after he is kidnapped. In the film Gibson’s character Tom Mullen is seen wearing a Breitling Aviastar. While this piece definitely is identifiable as a Breitling, it has a vintage charm similar to the old Heuer Autavia and similar watches. The Breitling Aviastar costs around $3,400 USD on the secondary market.

Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime in Ballers

We have taken a deep dive into the watches of Dwayne Johnson (aka the Rock) in our previous article. It turns out we missed a spot. In addition to being a former WWE Wrestler and movie superstar, Johnson starred in the HBO hit show Ballers. In the show, the Rock played Spencer Strasmore, a retired NFL player who spent his post-NFL career as a financial manager for professional athletes. Johnson is spotted during the show wearing the Breitling Transocean Chronograph in rose gold. This Breitling timepiece has a unique world timer complication which allows the wearer to see the time in 24 different time zones. The Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime has a price tag of around $16,000 USD.

John Travolta as the Brand Ambassador of Breitling Watches

Apart from movies, multiple actors represent Breitling as brand ambassadors. John Travolta has been the Breitling Brand Ambassador since 2005. The actor has been spotted in various ads wearing Breitlings. Interestingly, Travolta, in addition to acting, is also a pilot. Travolta is certified to operate planes such as the Boeing 747-400. Travolta is so seriously about his flying that he has a private runway on his property in Florida. So it makes sense that Travolta would align himself with a brand so rich in aviation heritage. One Breitling ad featuring Travolta shows him wearing a Breitling Navitimer with his private plane in the background. This advertisement was shot on his property.

Of course our list is not an exhaustive list of Breitling watches in movies. Breitling was founded in 1884 and has been one of the most well known watch brands ever since. As we spot more Breitlings in movies we will continue to update this article. Feel free to let us know what we missed!
