INTRODUCING: The All-New Omega Aqua Terra 150M 38mm and 34mm

The third complete Collection that has been revamped during Omega Days has been the Omega Aqua Terra 150M - The brands 3-hand steel sport watch offering. The Aqua Terra has been fit into another one of Omega’s more awkward positions against the Speedmaster. It’s another sport’s watch that isn’t necessarily a highly-sought-after piece, but still fits into Omega’s overall DNA. With this revamp, Omega seems to be aiming at people who are looking at their offerings that include a more toned-down sport watch offering in both bold colored 38mm and a more feminine pallet 34mm case sizes.

Omega Aqua Terra

The Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m 38mm

We can start with the 38mm offering. The Aqua Terra has always been a more reserved offering from Omega. It’s typically been a 3-hander with a date, and is fairly ubiquitously a dressier watch, or a sportier watch. It’s fit into a niche of under-40mm collections the brand has seemed to forget about outside of it’s constellations collection. It’s also been the easiest to have the most fun with (Olympics anyone?).

For 2022, Omega has revisited the 38mm case size with some bold new dial colors. There is a Gold color, a Red color, a Blue color, a Green color, and a Champagne color. All of them pop against the lume-filled indicators and handsets. The dials aren’t just a color swap either, they are either PVD coated or CVD coated (a chemical treatment) to achieve the specific hues of each dial. Additionally, the pattern is a comfortable sunburst style and keeps the dial a bit more toned down despite the bold color choices.

The case measures in at a modest 38mm x 12.26mm and is only available in stainless steel. The aggressive wedge indices are still an identifying feature, and the date at 6 o’ clock is non-intrusive and (thank God) doesn’t cut into an indiice, instead it replaces is. The watch carries a water resistance of 150 meters.

Inside the watch is the Calibre 8800 Co-Axial movement. The METAS certified movement is visible through a sapphire caseback. The movement beats at 25,200 VpH, features 35 jewels, and a power reserve of 55-Hours.

The Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m 34mm

Very similar to the 38mm, just a smidge smaller, the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m 34mm features some subtle, but cool differences. For starters, the dial colors are more reserved in nature. Featuring 5 different (and less bold) dial colors: Blue Lagoon, Bay Green, Sandstone, Saffron, and Terracotta.

The dials are where the major differences are. Unlike the 38mm, the 34mm has more round shaped indices instead of the aggressive wedge indices of the watches included in the 38mm collection. Additionally, the obvious dial color variations are being more toned-down here, and feature a more pastel nature to them.

Since the watch features the same Calibre 8800 movement (specs above) we see the same date window at 6 o’ clock, except instead of the wedge shape, the 34mm has a framed round cutout. You will notice, however, the exclusion of the chapter ring around the perimeter of the dial - It looks cleaner.

Overall, I do appreciate this release from Omega. I do recognize that the brand may actually be taking a page from Rolex’s releases a couple years ago. I recognize the comparison to Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual we saw, and the various colorways released into Rolex’s 3-hand collection. It’s fair, although I don’t find a problem with it.

The Aqua Terra has always been positioned well to be Omega’s 3-Hand Sport Watch, and has really not been capitalized on as well as the brand could bring it to the forefront. I’ve always felt the Aqua Terra was awkwardly the watch for people who either already had a Speedy, or weren’t interesting in a Chronograph, but not exactly marketed as such. I think introducing a slew of new dial colorways at a really affordable price was a really smart move for the brand.

How much is the 2022 Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M 38mm and 34mm?
