Oris Releases a Rectangular Watch. Cause, Why not?

Dubai Watch week was the talk of the town for a little while, but since everyone has returned and the dust has settled, we are getting a few more looks at some of the releases. Oris, among them, has released four new rectangular models conveniently named… well, the Oris Rectangular.

THE JUICE:

The Oris Rectangular will come in four color variations - Grey, White, Blue, and Bordeaux. With the exception of the white dial, which comes on a classic yellow leather strap, the rest of the dial variations come on a matching color leather. For the sake of argument, I’ll say the colors are bold by many standards for a Rectangular watch. Oris are mostly known for their Divers and Pointer date models, so branching out into a Rectangular watch (which isn’t particularly new to the brand) is a fresh and contemporary take on a more dressy model.

Each watch is pretty clearly inspired in an Art Deco fashion. The 9, 12, 3 o’ clock layout just screams “watches of the past” while the overall case and dial design are a little more contemporary. The date window at 6 o’ clock in non-intrusive and aptly compliments the dial instead of taking away from it. The step-teach chapter ring and second indicator, along with the flared hour indices give out all the vintage vibes a modern enthusiast could ask for, without delving full-blown into a homage of something like a Reverso.

Overall, I feel that this watch fits Oris’ DNA quite well. While it’s not particularly expected from the brand, it melds right into the catalogue without feeling too surprising. I think the watch will sell well.

How much is the Oris Rectangular?

Price for the Oris Rectangular will come in right at $1,950 USD.
