Laurent Ferrier Releases Their Second Special Edition with Phillips Auction

A couple years ago, Laurent Ferrier produced a limited run of 12 watches for the Phillips Auction executives. They were simple, understated, but really beautiful watches. Since the watches were specifically for Phillips staff, the public never had access to those pieces. That changes today. Laurent Ferrier has just released another run of watches in conjunction with Phillips Auction - aptly named the Homage II.

The Homage II was directly inspired by the watchmaking of the 1930s-50s - which feels very obvious from the press images. The features of the watch feel directly lifted from an era where things were meticulously designed with purpose and intention.

We can start with the 40mm steel step case. You’ll notice that the case bezel doesn’t fit directly over the case, instead leaving a slight relief down towards the sides and lugs. This, paired with a matte brush finishing and extended lugs, lifts the watch straight out of a Gaslight. Besides the movement, ever part of the watch was custom designed for this particular project - and is a first and only for the brand at this time.

The Homage II will come in two dial colors - Black and “soft pink”. The Soft Pink is definitely my favorite of the two, though both have charm in their own merit. The crosshair dial design has become fairly staple for Laurent Ferrier, and is immediately recognizable in the Homage II. The small seconds Subdial blends in, and doesn’t intrude the over all dial design, and the handsets are a perfect length. The brand claims it took about 2 years to settle on the deisgn of this watch, and it really shows. The watch feels meticulously crafted, and there isn’t much about it I don’t like.

Flipping the watch over, you’ll find the Calibre LF 116.01 - a beautifully decorated gold movement. The movement is manual wind, and features a power reserve of 80 hours. On the perimiter of the dial you’ll read “In Association with Bacs & Russo”, the collaborators. Additionally, the limited edition number is stamped at the bottom.
