To mark the 60th anniversary of Seiko’s wildly popular old-school “it” watch commonly coined as “The Alpinist”, Seiko announced an ultra limited edition of a mroe modern take on their hard-to-find affordable jewel. Featuring a cool blue dial with silver accents instead of the previous green or white with gold accents, the New Alpinist U.S. Limited Edition is a cool new take on one of my personal favorite’s from the Seiko catalog.

The Juice:

The Seiko Alpinist has found a nifty spot among collectors who want a watch that’s both reputable and affordable. The original model from 1959 still holds a candle to watches of higher calibers even today. The hard-sought-after watch has cause a convoluted price segment with a “whatever-you’re-willing-to-pay-above-$400” with many I’ve personally seen sell for in excess of a thousand dollars depending on condition.

Last year, Seiko made waves with a head-scratching price hike on many of it’s “re-vamped” popular models from an earlier time (Looking at you Seiko Tuna), and I’m happy to say this model is not included in that segment. The relatively affordability of a long sought after model paired with an ultra limited run, in a new (wildly popular) colorway, is going to definitely sell quickly, and sell well. I imagine we will be seeing this model sell well above it’s $600 price point.
