Maurice Lacroix Introduces It's Sustainable Aikon Tide Collection

It’s no secret that followers of myself or WristEnthusiast know that the Maurice Lacroix Aikon is one of our favorite sport’s watches. It’s affordable, fun, and easily attainable en masse. Yesterday, the brand has released a slew of colorful new watches made entirely out of a plastic composite by partnering with #Tide - an “upcycling ocean-bound plastic waste” specialist. The Aikon Tide is a unique watch that features a unique roadmap to accomplish the brands case design and philanthropic endeavor.

THE JUICE:

The brand has opted for a unique marketing perspective that is both fun and does a lot for the environment. The goal of the Aikon Tide is to provide financial support, as well as direct support for a number of endeavors, but certainly the most direct is saving 10,000,000 bottles from polluting the ocean. Each watch is said to take 17 bottles to make.

The actual material is a composite made from plastic and glass. The bezel, case, case back, crown, and buckle are all made from this material. Maurice Lacroix claims the watch is five times more resistant than regular plastic, and has six times less of a carbon footprint than standard PET.

The process is that bottles are collected from around Thailand and the Phillipines and ground down into flakes, compacted, and then processed and crafted into the colorful watches seen here.

And the watch is truly a blast, and has many different iterations from ultra-masculine, to ultra-feminine, and every pallet in between. The indices are lume-filled and the dial features a unique “Vague du Jura” impression meant to mimic waves in the ocean. The watch features the brand’s quick-change strap system, and on a watch as colorful as this, it’s important to be able to collect and swap out the straps as the seasons change. Each strap is rubber and branded with the Maurice Lacroix “M”.

I won’t lie, the Aikon Tide is a super fun offering from the brand that really blindsided me. I was not expecting such an ambitious endeavor from Maurice Lacroix, but I’m definitely glad to see it. The partnership with #Tide is fitting, and I think this will do really well for the brand.

How much is the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Tide?
